Fired from his Job? |
My nephew was fired from his job at lowes. They still owe him a paycheck after he worked about 20-25 hours. Do they have to give him his check and can i just walk in there in get it for him? yes they owe him so they have to pay.. but they may insist he pick the check up himself You need a note signed from him giving you consent to pick up his check, and even then they could choose not to let you have it.. Or he could call and tell them your'e picking it up... There is no reason why your nephew can't go in an get it himself, unless he is embarrassed or doesn't feel like going in the store. He deserves his hard earned money and they can't turn him away for asking to receive his check. Make sure that they have not mailed it though, because usually when someone is terminated, at some companies they just mail the last check to the person so they can avoid having the ex-employee driving all the way back or to avoid an unneccessary confrontion. Lowes is afterall a store and anybody, no matter what the previous relationship to the store, should be allowed in. Also, if he wants his check now and wants you to get it for him, it might be difficult as some employers want to personally give the check to the person to avoid any type of fraud or mishandling associated with the check. I've been there, done that! Depending on the state, you can only obtain the check with written consent and in some places you must wait up to 72 hours to get it. If they mailed the check instead, you will have to wait. Laws vary by state, so check your local Employment Center Website. (EEO) Most companies will not release a paycheck to someone other than the employee. He should call and ask the status of his final check from the H.R. person at the location. He can ask that it be mailed to his home address on record if he is not comfortable going back in to the store. Tell him to call and write a letter to mail the check to him..I do not think you can pick it up. Now why does he not just pick it up himself, face the music, what their going to bit his head off, their only people like you and me. He needs to grow up and be a man...Don't help him hide. After all its his money and he needs to collect it, period. |
