What does it mean when a job says you're on a 3 month probation period? If you are on 3 months probation it means that either party (meaning you or your employer) can terminate your employment. Generally you would still need to give notice as per any other job. If, after the three months both parties are happy for you to continue in the job then you would be made a permanent member of staff, and are then able to accrue entitlements such as sick leave and annual leave. It is a safety measure in case things don't work out, and is based on performance for the employer, and for you, whether the job meets your expectations. Source(s): Recruitment consultant it means that anytime in that time they can fire you for no reason For the most part it means if you mess up at all you can be terminated. If you are new to the job you have 3 months to acclimate yourself to the company and do well in your job or you can loose your job or be sent for retraining,,,,,,depending on the company Yes you can also quit at any time, pleas just give 2 week notice, It means that they can fire you for any reason . And that they are watching you closely It means they're testing you out to see whether you're fit for the job. For three months, your performance will be watched and you'll be more likely to be let go if you're not doing well. After three months, if you're doing fine, they'll end the probation, back off a little and let you settle in as a regular employee. Basically my company does that to insure that in the first 90 days, you decide you dont want to work there or that your performance is unsatisfactory that the relationship can be terminated, and you will be unable to collect unemployment compensation for that position. It doesnt mean they are watchingyou more closely or anything, just a way to protect themselves from those job hopers that want to collect unemployment for a few monthes every year. |
