Law Training Contract?

Is it true that one cannot choose which seats you take when you do your training contract? I heard this from a solicitor who also told me that you will qualify and definitely go on to practice in the last seat that you take. Can anybody just clear this up for me please as I'm very confused. It seems strange that a trainee cannot choose which seats to qualify in...

thats rubbish, depending on your firm you may have a limited choice in the seats that you can take as it will depend on what the firm needs and where the spaces are.

Once you qualify you are a Solicitor and it's up to you what you choose to specialise in. Once you've completed your two years you may choose to leave the firm and go to another that can offer you a place in the field you want to work in. You don't qualify in a specific field, you just qualify. Source(s): Im a trainee solicitor and doing the whole training contract thing now.
