Getting a firefighter job in California?? |
I want to become a firefighter in California. I currently live in LA and would like to work as close as possible. I called LA county fire and spoke to somone. They said you dont need an EMT or any previouse experience to apply. I think some other departments do require an EMT though? What preparation should I do. Right now I am just getting in shape for the CPAT and then planning on submitting an app. Any advice. How hard is it to get hired these days? I am providing a link to a website for Apprenticeship programs in California. Just choose LA County and choose "Civil Service" for the program. You will see several different apprenticeship programs for being a firefighter, what the requirements are, and who to contact for more information. I hope this helps you!! GOOD LUCK!! http://www.dir.ca.gov/databases/das/aigs... Become an EMT first and work your way up, its hard to get inot a department like LAFD. All CA firefighters require certification from an accredited program, usually acquired at 2 year community/technical colleges. Butte County has a good program and is inexpensive to live in. It is competitive to get into a program as well as a job. seasonal work. You may have to leave LA and go where the work is. (Rural counties and mountain areas). Check out CA community college programs offering certification in this field. Formal training may not require 2 yrs. |
