Can I get employed by Govt contractors?

Ok so here's the scene. I was fired from a job a few years back for dishonesty. I did not steal, but lied about one of my past jobs.

I found another job and moved on. Now I want to apply for jobs in small companies that do contract work for Government agencies.

If I declare honestly on my application form about my past, does my situation automatically pre-clude the possibility to be employed? I got clean credit, and no criminal history.

Have there been cases where Govt agencies employ people like myself with a less-than-perfect past? Is my situation a permanent handicap for employment to Govt agencies?

The position I am applying for is Information-Technology related.

Wow. You're worried about that? That doesn't even get classified as white-collar crime. But, I am with a Government Contractor. I might be willing to hire you. Depends on what you're looking for. Email my personal email: nickb@estamponline.net if you're interested. Just a big "Maybe" thpugh. Don't know if you're what we're looking for yet.
It looks like you're applying for jobs with contractors, not with the government agencies themselves, right? You should be fine. The government isn't going to care if one of their contractors' employees was fired for lying. If you had served jail time for embezzlement or something, that would be one thing, but no government agency is going to have time to do that kind of detailed background check on each person who works for a potential contractor. Whether or not you will be hired is up to the companies you apply to, but once you are hired by them your former employment status shouldn't prevent them from winning a government contract. Good luck with the job hunt!
