After I left my job my employer refuses to give me my last months pay what are my options $6250?

It is too much for small claims court and too small for a lawyer. He also classified me as a independant contractor and took nothing out from my prevous paychecks. Florida wage and hour told me that they cannot do anything because he is an idividual and not a company. Thr IRS has not gotten back to me with a job clarification ie independant or employee. any ideas?

you probably are messed up in this one, since no one will help you... I would seek the next time you are an individual working basis that you get a solid contract...
You could go to legal aid or legalzoom.com and learn how to file a claim on your own without a lawyer. You should be able to get a judgement for the money if you have documented proof that he owes you.
If the IRS comes back with a decision that you were really an employee, you could contact the department of labor in your state about the unpaid wages. Other than that, you'd have to sue him for it, and if it's too large an amount for small claims court, that would probably end up costing more than it's worth. If small claims court limit is $5000, you might consider filing there but just for $5000 - would be a lot better than nothing.
