Is it legal to live in a place of business? |
i have little moneys and if i could rent a spot in the business district, i wanna just live there to. also my business will be a recording studio and having a place to jam is crucial so after 7 oclock or so when other businesses are closing we can jam ...loudly even into the night Call your B.B.B. Good luck! It depends on the zoning laws in the area. It tends to vary from place to place but most of the time it is not legal to live in a place of business due to the fact that the zoning codes are different. However it seems that the growing trend in new business construction is that the first floor contains offices and business and the second floor apartments and in some cases the third floor has lofts. Rather complex. Firstly, no one is going to stop you from sleeping at night at your place of business. Your own problem would occur if your residency caused problems for other businesses and they complained. The zoning laws really stop the building on a redential premises, rather than the actual act of living. Many businesses operate late at night so the whole jamming may be a problem. If, for example, you were in an industrial, rather than business district there will be less problem. Modern zoning approaches usually mix business and residences, so it is likely you will still be close to residences, who are likely to complain. An industrial zone creates the opposite problem, where the noise of the other businesses will impact on your recording studio. Recording studios are often located in rural areas, to avoid neighbours, provide live in space for musicians and so on. Also the rent is lower and the artists can record without distractions (though harder for all the small session, advertising work that will pay your bills) I would try and get creative, think about basements in offices, rural areas, industrial parks and so on. |
