Previous employer contacting me?

I quit my job recently
and while at social services I was asked
why I quit and I told them that I was being
treated unfairly and could not perform my tasks.
Shortly aftwerward, there was an investigation launched
against my previous employer. My question is whether my
previous employer is allowed to contact me
for questioning. After all, once I quit, wasn't all my
ties to them severed?"

You may be called in for a deposition with the company representatives and their attorneys.

The company has a right to defend themselves against any and all accusations.

You have the right to find a lawyer to go with you.

How were you "treated unfairly" and why, if you were so unfairly treated are you applying for welfare and not unemployment? Source(s): 15+ years hiring & management.
You have the right not to talk to them if you don't want to. Depending on the reasons, they the employer has the right to question you and investigate internally. Get a lawyer if this is serious or have them call the folks who are investigating on your behalf.

I don't recommend that you speak with anyone from your previous employer unless you are represented by a lawyer or a non profit laborers rights organization.

I totally agree with the previous answer. Do not talk to them, someone instigated an investigation, so only talk to a lawyer, yours preferably.
In this case there is an investigation being launched by the government. You do not have to speak with your former employer. I certainly hoped they prefaced the call with "You do not need to answer any of my questions unless you choose to do so". If they did not, they certainly are working under poor legal advice. It will most likely work against them in the investigation.
