How long is it suppose to take??????????????

I interviewed for a job on August 23 and did a drug test, background check and fingerprinting that same day. They said it will take 3 business days but it's been almost 2 weeks. What's up? It has never took this long for me to go through this process. They even sent a copy of the background check to my house and it was fine.

There could be a lot of reasons.

a. Hired another candidate

b. Job pulled or put on hold.

c. More pressing issues

d. etc. etc.

Why not give them a call and determine if you are still a viable candidate. It won't hurt. Source(s): 40 Years in H.R.
Call your employer ASAP. Ask them what your schedule is. This is way too long of a wait.
Sounds like maybe it's time to make a call of inquiry to them. Good luck.
Maybe the drug test results were positive.

*EDIT - Well since the test results came back ok, I would advise you to give them a call and tell them your situation and ask them if the position has been filled. If it hasn't, then ask them to give you a time frame in which you will hear something.
If I were you, I would call them. Here's how I would recommend your part of the conversation go:

"Hi, my name is XXXXX, and I interviewed for the XXXXXXX position on August 23rd. I've already received the background check results, and I wanted to thank you for sending it to me. Also, I was calling to find out if there is any more information I can provide to help with the hiring decision, as I was told the process would take 3 days and it's been a few weeks."

Don't refer to any specific "process", but answer what one you mean if they ask. That way, you're covering all of them - background check, drug test, hiring decision, etc. Also, this leaves the door open to them telling you if they are in the hiring phase, still doing character checks, or have hired someone already.

You shouldn't mention the drug test results not coming back yet, or the drug test at all, because that might come across as you being worried about what they might've found. If something was found, you've given them an opening to tell you ("...any more information I can provide..."). It could be that the drug test needed to be analyzed again, or the testing facility made an error. I've seen that happen before. Also, some perfectly legitimate and legally taken drugs will come up on the drug screen - if you find this is the case, there's no reason to hide it, because the drug testing agency already knows about it, and they might be the ones questioning you about it; and if it's legal, prescribed, and taken as directed for a medical reason, you have nothing to worry about. Some companies are not comfortable hiring someone who takes certain prescription drugs - then it might become a legal issue - but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. :)

Also, don't specifically mention that it's taken "2 weeks", because that gives the impression that you've been watching the calendar and you feel they should've made a decision by now - in the world of HR and hiring, 2 weeks can be like 2 days to the rest of us - they get busy with projects and, don't forget, they have to handle any issues with current employees or company changes too. You want to make sure the HR person likes you, and doesn't dread your call.

It is possible that they hired someone else, and they should tell you if they did. However, go with your gut - if you feel the phone call didn't go well, or that the company isn't interested in you anymore, you should explore other employment.

I hope this information helps! Good luck and I wish you the best!
