Figuring out commission in retail?

Okay, so I make $6.20/HR but I get 9% commission for every sale I make after I make a certain amount. Does anyone know how to calculate the amount that must be made before commission starts to count, (lets say for an 8 hour shift or so)? I can't figure this out! Any help would rock, especially since I'm trying to decide whether this job is worth my time..

I don't know if this will help, but my commission goes like this: After calculating my hourly, I multiply my sales by the percent of commission, anything above my hourly is my commission. So if you work 8 hours at 6.20 that's 49.60, but you have to multiply that by how many days you worked. My commission is based on the weekly sales, I don't know about yours. So take 49.60x5 days, 248.00. If your commission is more then that, then that total is your gross.

If your works different, don't be afraid to ask the manager. I don't work retail anymore but I was a retail manager and I would not think that's a stupid question.
NO! How can anyone help you when you don't provide concrete data? "a certain amount" is totally useless information from which to make a calculation.
I completely know what your trying to figure out! I knew what you meant when you said "a certain amount". Anyhow, I think what you do is take your sales and multiply by 9%. Whatever that is take the difference from what you earn with just $6.20. That is your commission for the day. At least I think you do it this way, it's kind of confusing but hope this helps!
