I have a possible position in pharmacuetical sales. I am a person who wants and needs to make some money? |
because of debt i really need to increase my income. A position in pharmaceutical sales would help with that. The problem/question is. Im not the kind of person who likes to kiss but, or suck up to get business. I have no problem with relationship bldng, i have to do it in my current position, but i dont do well with not feeling like the other party wants to or has an interest in bldg the relationship. I'm more of a direct person, I explain benefit and let them make choice. So my question to the Pharm. Reps. out there: Should i even consider this position? Remember i could definitely use the pay increase! I would also like to mention that this job would require relocating from a major city (metro area of about 1.5 million) to my college town (metro area of about 300,000) My point being that if job doesnt work out, i would likely not find a job paying the amount i would get for the pharm. sales postion. Also What is the most frustrating part of your job as a Pharmacueutical Rep? ive been with the pharmaceutical industry for more than 5 years now (actually, about 12 years!). i started as a pharma rep for about 4 years, got promoted and along the way, still with sales as manager for more than 2 years now. the thing is, when i started 12 yrs ago, i just plunged in and applied, having the same thoughts as you - quite shy, dont agree with kissing asssh, etc. so you dont have to worry! for all the things you hear - pharma is very ethical and we do not encourage kissing asssh but explain the benefits and sell your products. kissing assh i should say is not non-existent but its your choice. from experience, the doctors will have respect for you if they know you dont patronize them - beleive me! they go along with the assh-kissers, they like that they have people like this but deep inside they dont respect these people. how do i know? with the 12 yrs ive been here, weve also conducted surveys, interviews by 3rd party suppliers (those who do research) and the mds says so themselves. and they are not kidding, bec they have no idea who makes the survey -its designed that way. going back to your question, yes, it pays well. the training is great bec it not only trains you to know the products but as well as personality-training and getting the sales training. and if you dont want it -you can always find your niche again somewhere... good luck! |
