What are the steps to be an effective sales and marketing specialist?

The most important skill that you need is to have excellent listening skills. You can have awesome product knowledge, be the best at prospecting, be awesome when it comes to closing questions, and be enthusiastic but if your listening skills are not "EXCELENT" you will never be an awesome salesperson, you will just be average.

There are many qualities that are important to succeed in sales. A few big ones are motivation, people skills, product knowledge, and the ability to handle/overcome rejection.

10 years in sales.
I have been in Pharmaceutical Sales for many years now, and have been quite successful. If I were to evaluate myself, I would identify the following to be traits I carry with me everyday: passion, excellent work ethic, hungry for success ($$$), competitive, self-discipline, courteous, ability and willingness to learn, good listener, and most of all, ability to know where to get the business and not afraid to ask for it.
In the skill side, I think listening skill is one of the most. Problem is most of the people think they can listen but they aren't.

To communicate , be sincere, honest, helpfull but skillfull & proffesional - if you want to buy something from a sales person, isn't this type our preferences !

To sharpen it, time & practice cannot be passed - it's always a result of time & practice !

To speed it up, passion & determination !

To strengthen, learn to accept the rejection ! How to accept "failure" but stand to try again !

To start, appreciate the opportunity - rejection is also an opportunity !
Knowing the market and even bigger is to overcome your own beliefs.

They're both related. Basically, it's understand what the collective public would like, not what you would like. You're marketing for the public, not yourself. You're only one opinion; so you have to forget what you like and go with what opinion polls say.
