How many hours can a 15 and a half year old work in a week? |
during both summer & school year Depends on the state. Try the Employment security website for yours. legally, you have to be 16 to work - so no hours. however, you can get a work permit through your school (or at least you used to be able to) to work 8 hours. we can work 7 hours per holiday day and on saturdays. only 2 hrs on sundays and after schools. jen if someone wants to work in this country there is always someone or laws trying to stop you State laws for Massachusetts state the following: 14-15 year old minors may NOT be employed: --During school hours EXCEPT as provided in approved work experience and career exploration programs; --Between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. EXCEPT from July 1 through Labor Day, when they may work until 9:00 p.m; --After 8:00 PM, minors must be directly supervised by an adult who is located in the workplace and who is reasonably accessible, unless the minor works at a kiosk, cart, or stand in the common area of an enclosed shopping mall that has security from 8:00 p.m. until the mall is closed to the public; --More than 3 hours per day during school weeks, not more than 8 hours per day during weeks when school is not in session; --More than 18 hours per school week EXCEPT in approved work experience and career exploration programs, in which case, they may work 23 hours; --More than 40 hours per week when school is not in session; --More than 6 days per week. You are limited to 7 hours a week as you are still at school. 5 of those can be done on a Saturday or Sunday. You are NOT allowed to work at night or work with machinery. |
