I am applying to some big companies for an entry level marketing position and may have overstated my GPA? |
One company specifically asked for my GPA. I had it listed as approximately 3.0 on the resume. However, I am still expecting some grades to come in, explained that to the interviewer, and then she asked if my GPA would be above or below 3.0 I said most likely barely above. However, after some calculation, I realize that I may have to expect a 2.97 for my GPA. Will this be a big deal with the employer? As soon as everything is official, I would forward this info to them, letting them know. Is being .03 below the critical 3.0 mark a huge issue?? Probably not a big deal - but then again - neither is a 3.0 anything to get excited about. So I doubt a 1% variance will matter. You should be fine since you told them it will "most likely" be above. You're very close, so hopefully they won't be too concerned. If the courses that are bringing your GPA down are not related to your field, you might bring that point up too. Good luck! It depends. Honesty is always the best policy. And while you were honest in saying you weren't sure, the interviewer might ask for proof (I can't imagine she would unless it had some bearing on the job) and then you will need to explain the situation a bit. GPAs can matter. But the underlying issue is reliability and honesty. Your situation shouldn't be a problem. It's when people say 3.0 and really have 2.0 that it gets to looking bad to employers. I think your actual GPA score is pretty close to your predicted one so it should not be a problem. All the best. 96 This shouldn't be an issue, as you explained you have not received all of the grades yet. If you're guessing, and you are only off by .03, that's pretty close! Good luck on the new job! 10 years in sales. |
