How do you get into sports marketing?

Im really interested in having a career in sports marketing and im about to begin college and major in business marketing,So all I want to know is what are the steps to getting a career in sports marketing? Their is barely any information about it from what i can find, so help me out.

Your educational path sounds like a good plan. Just keep in mind this is a very competitive field.

You may want to consider an unpaid internship to get your foot in the door. The beginning tasks will be mostly menial, including making copies, sending letters and shipping merchandise. However, if you put in your time, and find a team that can benefit from you working with them, you can have a career in this field. Source(s): 10 years in sales.
If you're still in college, begin by working for your school's sports information/media relations department or for the athletic department's marketing AD. Or find an internship with a sports franchise, arena/stadium, bowl game, college conference, PGA event, NCAA tournament or championship, etc.
