Is insurance sales a good profession / career?

I recently posted a resume on a job posting website, and was contacted by a representative from United American Health Insurance -- part of the Torchmark Corporation. The email says I can earn a good amount of money in my first year......but I'm interested just how good this profession is, particularly for those they are targeting on a random job posting website. Knowledge of the industry, or personal experience is preferred.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just like any sales job, it depends on the person. Not everybody is suited for sales. It is commissioned based and if you don;t seel you don't earn any money.
It's a half step above a used car salesman. Don't do sales if you can do anything else. Its exhausting trying to please everyone and that's almost the definition of a salesman.
both my parents are in claims in insurance, they hate it but they've been doin it for 30 years, so, u be the judge
Insurance sales is a very good business...but its tough. You will have to work hard and really love the sales process.

But what's great about it is that virtually every individual and certainly every business is a potential client: Everyone buys insurance!

It takes hard work and a lot of shoe leather to get started, but once you are established you can have a very comfortable income.

I would look around at a number of opportunities. This first one may be too limited for you. I think areas that are worth considering are general commercial property and casualty insurance, and life insurance.
20 years in business.
Insurance can be a great career. Just know that you are building a business, not getting a job and you will have a growth curve with your income.

Do your due diligence on any company that you are going to work for. Check with the BBB, do a web search for "dirt" or unhappy customers.
