Design a sales processing system for medium-sized stationary retail store with four branches?

Yep... that's an Tech question. Not necessarily a sales question. Pick a vendor, any vendor, and they'd be glad to help you. Source(s): zipper
Well first, one needs a general ledger and a system to keep track of said ledger. I'd go with either (MS-Money: damn near free) or Quickbooks (lots of experts available for rent).
Next, one needs a cash register. National Cash Register is widely known, has service people in most towns, and is considered reliable. Next, what is our budget? NCR can spend any amount of money your are willing to offer up.
You are looking for a retail point of sale solution such as the RealPOS 20. The most important thing is that it records sales: cash, check, or credit card. Next, you'll need a price tag system that is supported by your cash register system. Bar codes, of course. You'll need a special printer.
Now the question of network-ability comes up. Do you want the sales registers to communicate in real time with a central server (expensive, safer), or do you want the branch managers to fax you a report at the end of the day (not so expensive).
Next comes managerial controls. What's to keep a shop clerk from putting your money in theri pocket? Inventory control is critical. Merchandise must be controlled and I'd recommend a central facility for that function (one of the branches can serve as the main branch, but shipping and receiving should be separate and discrete). You need to know if you ordered it, whether it arrived, where it is, and whether its been sold. Next comes eCommerce. If you are going to have inventory, why not offer it for sale online? So you'll need an e-solution (which NCR has as well; note budget).
