Returning from Europe to US - 3 month notice.?

I have a perm job in Norway and its customary to give 3 months notice when leaving (in my contract as well) but most US employers wont wait 3 months with a new hire. What do do?

I would give your notice to your employer in Norway and start making your plans to return to the U.S. Once you get back then you can start applying for jobs. Most employers won't consider you until you have relocated yourself back in the U.S. and are here and ready to start working. You could start sending out your resume about 3 weeks before you fly home and see if you receive any interest. Make sure you indicate in your cover letter that you are moving back to the U.S. yourself so they don't think that you are asking for relocation assistance to do so.
