Which is better job personal banker or Sales & Service Specialist?

What do their job do? which is easier for promotion and better pay?

I assume by "better" you mean higher on a corporate "job scale", and not better from a personal perspective. Only the individual employee can decide for themselves which of the 2 positions is better for them.

Having that said, a Personal Banking position is typically higher in job scale than a Sales and Service Specialist position.

Personal Banking positions usually involve not only acquiring/producing new deposit accounts, but doing maintenance on them as well per the clients request. These positions also involving producing new loan applications, preparing them for underwriting review, giving the decision to the client, and closing with the customer. (Closing is when the client comes in to sign loan documents) Personal Bankers usually are able to do both unsecured loans, and secured loans. (Loans secured by cars, savings/stock, and homes).

Sales and Service Specialists are similar in that they can open and maintain deposit account. They sometimes run a teller window however, and are not trained or licensed to do loans involving the col lateralization of homes.

That is usually why the job grade/pay scale is different. Using a home as collateral open a lot of legal/liability doors, and banks need well trained individuals to do these types of loans.

Sales and Service Specialists are well trained usually, however, the position is more entry-level, and may at times be given to a teller who was phenomenal at referring new business to bankers.

To know for sure what your company thinks about which one is "better" I would consult your Human Resources handbook, and look at what the Job Scale looks like. That's the only way to know for sure because companies throw around titles now-a-days like never before. It seems everybody is now a Vice President for their company, or something else "fancy sounding!"

Hope this helps!!

I worked at Bank of America for....well too long, and a Personal Banker is "a better position" than a Sales and Service Specialist - relative to job scale comparison. Source(s): I'm an Industry Insider!!
Are you talking about those positions at Bank of America? A sales & service specialist can open new accounts, service accounts, and performs teller work. As I understand it, they usually more teller work than accounts desk work. They usually only do the accounts desk work when a personal banker is absent.

Personal bankers open up new accounts, services accounts, and many can even do loans and lines of credit. They also get paid a bit more than sales & services specialists. Also, these positions are usually next in line for assistant manager positions.
