Interview?

Why do people make appointments to come to interviews and then not turn up?

there may be 2 impt reasons:
- if they are currently employed, something very important came up at work and they cant risk not to be there (after all, its a choice bet. an interview and risking a current job)

- no longer interested

at any rate, the person should have informed you that they cant make it and probably resked. its basic ethics/courtesy. sorry if someone stood you up..
Several reasons. They may have been offered a job prior to the interview. Change of mind or feeling jittery. However, it is always nice to call and advise the interview that they won't be turning up for the interview.
Probably for many personal reasons including fear and anxiety - rather than be faced with a potentially gruelling and nerve-racking interview a lot of people would prefer to take the easy way out and not attend.

Another reason is that generally the interviewer does not know the interviewee - so the people that make appointments to attend have in essence nothing to lose in terms of tarnishing their reputation and their weak willed actions will never be known by most people they know. Plus there are always jobs out there in our day and age and people often have several possible job opportunities to fall back on - so curtailling one will not hinder them.

Many people could well be ill or otherwise engaged and not bother phoning to tell of their situation because it is easier.

In addition there are several hundred thousand people in the UK claiming benefits or continually searching for jobs without success and would rather not attend because either they are just pretending to do a job search and make excuses not to attend or they believe after closer inspection that the job skills and requirements are beyond their own capacity or achievements.
They probably find something better, are being offered another post which better suits their necessities, or they realize they are actually not fit for the job. Some just make appointments in order to eliminate competition. How? They make tens of appointments, among which one is true and they appear. It sounds you have 20 potential candidates, but in reality you just have 2-3-4.

IRRESPONSIBILTY

Not showing up for an appointment and not calling to cancel/reschedule is nothing more or les than irresponibility.
I think it is far more acceptable than when they have been employed lol This could give an insight to their commitment to the position........I personally would not offer an alternative interview unless they had a very good reason for not contacting the organisation
