Stock& Bond brokerage Sales Job? |
I Was just hired with a Stock& Bond brokerage firm in New York. They are giving me study pay to study for the series 7 exam for 6 weeks. Then study for the series 63 exam. After that I go into sales training for a few weeks. Then I am put me on the phones and into production. I will get 50K base pay for a year then I am on commissions. I see now that the company has on there web site that they are always looking for sales reps. The Firm offers free dinners for all who will interview with them. The Firm has only have 50 reps but are always training 15 reps. I am starting to think that only one or two make the cut and fire the rest. This is like trying out for sports team. This is My JOB not a sport!!!!!!!! Am I right? I just wasted my summer working and studding for what? What Bull I work in insurance (annuities), now, and have for about a year. I am busting my tail to get my company to sponsor me for my Series 6 or 7 license. It's hard to get the test done without backing. If this company will sponsor you prior to proving yourself in sales, I would do it. They are offering a base too. Most companies don't offer a base first year AND study pay. They are offering a lot that I haven't seen before (and believe me, I looked). The turn-around is higher than anything I have ever seen..Sales industry turn-around is high, in general. Of 1 dozen new people in orientation with me, there are 2 remaining and expect that to decrease soon. The way I see it, learn your stuff, get your licenses, give it a try, and if this job fails: 1) you did your best and 2) you still got your licenses and they can't take those back, so you take them and go somewhere else. PS -- Add Life, Accident and Health to your arsenal. It makes you marketable in more industries. Insurance companies would kill for that combination. Most sales jobs are that way, they look for the most aggressive and sales isn't for everybody. That is the way they screen their candidates so don't feel used, the information you learned can help you in other ways. Be grateful for the opportunity and move on. I trade options and stocks, I make good money at it, you can too, you may have needed this push to get started. |
