Stuck Between HR and Marketing? |
Guys, I joined an MBA institute in chennai, when i heard there is an HR specialization, now that i ve completed my first yr, i was told they are not offering HR specialization for various reason, i am forced to take up marketing, but i am very obsessed with HR as my career. Can you tell The various HR courses that would be an alt for MBA hr which i can do it part time Hi, I don't think there is any courses that is equivalent to MBA - Hr. May be you can do any diploma courses like PGDBM or may be even MSW. The best alternative to that is: study Hr policies, ISO certified policies etc; complete certification in Human Resource like PHR, SPHR etc; it will be of great use to you. All the best! My first instinct would be to not specify your graduate degree in your resumes and job applications, just say MBA Management, or something. Or, you could flat out lie and put HR on your resumes. Either way, if you do well, they're not going to know any different. However, if they find out any differently, you're done. I've heard stories from professors of mine about someone they know making a little white lie on their resume or application and after 5 years of outstanding service that person gets canned. If you can still take HR courses part-time and have the time and money for it then get that training and education. Then , you could leave your resume vague like I said earlier and explain yourself in the interview. Or, you could list MBA in Marketing on your resume along with all those HR courses you took while still attending graduate school. Lastly, it stinks your school didn't live up to their end of the bargain. I was very interested in getting into my university's graduate sports management program and was planning on majoring in general management while minoring in sports management(no major program), so I could still have the general major, and I wasn't just typecast into Sports and I'd have more options upon graduation. The minor program would also "keep my head in the game" since general management wasn't what I really wanted to do and my motivation was lacking. The minor program would keep me fresh, so to speak. Anyway, I've got 1 semester left in my undergrad studies and the minor program has yet to get off the ground due to a lack of professors even though the classes have been offered in the catalog for the last 3 years. Life deals us lemons, make lemonade..... Ask to institute to connect you with relevant institutes that offer HR courses. |
