I just got a new job. I need tips on selling fine jewelry? |
I'm 42 and have worked in manufacturing all of my life. I just recently got hired by a jewelry store as a sales girl. I think I will be good at it and I am excited about the opportunity, but I have never been on the other side of the sales counter. Does anyone who sells jewelry have any tips for me? Those of you who have purchased jewelry, what do you look for in a sales person? Learn as much as you possibly can about the product - learn about white/yellow gold, silver/silver plated, vermeil, gem stones & their properties - research them as though you are purchasing them as an investment for yourself. The more you know about your product, the more you will believe in it - people work with people who believe in what they are doing. Sales people who talk to someone OTHER than a sales, to get a conversation going, are much more likely to make a sale. When someone comes in, tell them you love their perfume or make a comment about something they have with them - what a cute kid, I love your haircut, where do you get it done? Once a customer chats with you, they feel a bond and feel less comfortable leaving w/out buying something. Try a community website such as LoveBites and Bruises, (dubbed the queen of custom jewelry websites) they offer advice & free advertising to jewelry designers, as well as supplied etc. They also target teen audiences (Myspace generation etc.). A lot of jewelry and fashion magazine editors are members of their community. A good way to get noticed. You can also sell old jewelry through them. Also your own brands of jewelry. They offer laser cutting services for jewelry in a design-send-receive to your doorstep system. It offer creative scene/emo style jewelry that you design yourself.
