Am i good enough?? |
im 21. i just graduated with a bachelors in psychology and a major in women studies from an accredited university. i have no sales experience. i graduated with a 3.57 gpa. do you think that a company looking for a pharmaceutical representative would hire me? please post your thoughts. ive done my research but would like to see what others think---hopefully someone within the industry. At least you may have heard of some of the drugs if you majored in psychology (math on the other hand -- wouldn't be so good.) Most sales jobs are about your drive, and your personality more than your experience. However, I can see that some companies would likely be willing to hire you, if they didn't have someone else better than you to take the job. Keep in mind that they can teach you most of what you need to know. Sorry, but your chances are very very slim. Usually pharma comps (even the smaller ones) want at least 2+ years experience. Obviously, you have to start somewhere and the best place is B2B (Business to Business) outside sales. One industy they LOVE to see people from believe it or not is the copier industry (i.e, Xerox). The reason being pharma sales is extremely competitive and so is that industry. We often recruit directly from them because they have the skill set and personality we're looking for. There is a definite possiblity you can get a job with Xerox or similar company (Minolta, Canon, Ricoh, etc.)the key is to apply for a job through one of their dealerships or agencies. Do a search on monster for Xerox and you'll probably see a bunch on sales rep positions pop up in your area-go after them! They WILL hire fresh grads. I started off there and was recruited into my current pharma sales rep job and couldn't be happier. One word of caution is that it's not quite the glamorous job it's made out to be so keep your options open. Go get some B2B sales experience and you'll be on your way!
