Am i qualified to become a pharmaceutical representative? |
im 21. i just graduated with a bachelors in psychology and a major in women studies from an accredited university. i have no sales experience. i graduated with a 3.57 gpa. do you think that a company looking for a pharmaceutical representative would hire me? please post your thoughts. ive done my research but would like to see what others think---hopefully someone within the industry. Generally that is all the pharms look for. Pharmaceutical reps are hires and fires. As in all sales jobs 80% or more of the people hired fail. Just apply for the jobs as you see them, knock them dead with professionalism and communication and hope that you are one of the 20% that loves it and makes it. Good luck Source(s): sales for years and years Depends on the hiring phase the Pharm is in. I used to work at a recruiting firm that did Pharma recruiting, and I saw 2 different types of hiring practices. Every once in a while they would hire everyone, even the pizza delivery guy with no diploma or GED (no offense to pizza delivery people) and people with medical type PHD's. Then they would go through extensive classes and training, and people would drop off like flies and at the end of the established time period, those left standing had jobs. Then in the slow times they are a bit more picky. Do you have a degree. What type of experience do you have. What is your personality traits against the ideal traits for the jobs. Etc. It just depends on the type of product being released and the gear up for it, or if they just need areas maintained. Congratulations on your degree and outstanding GPA! I've been in Pharmaceutical Sales for the past 3 years. Every Pharmaceutical company that I have heard of requires that their sales reps to have: 1) a Bachelors degree (any major), 2) two years of outside sales experience (in any industry), and 3) a clean DMV record (minimal tickets/accidents and absolutely no DUI's). A great place for you to start would be with a company like ADP or Xerox. They typically hire new college grads with no sales experience and will provide excellent and comprehensive sales training that will prepare you for a career in Pharmaceutical Sales. Keep a binder with all of your sales numbers, performance evaluations, and letters of recommendation which you will later use as your "brag book" to bring into your interviews. Put in two years of hard work and then apply to Pharmaceutical companies. By then, you will be the "perfect package" that no company will be able to refuse! Good Luck! coreynahman.com is a great source for information about the Pharmaceutical industry. |
