How do i increase my chances of getting a job at Microcenter in the gaming department.?

The Microcenter near my house just started hiring for the gaming department just a few days ago. I applied online and i put that i had expierence in sales at best buy being a sales associate and the fact that i knew a ton about video games. I know my application that i submited is damn near flawless and what there looking for. My problem is that whenever i apply for a job i really love i get looked over and i don't get it. Plus the fact that its an online application makes me mad because tons of ppl submit those everydays so its easy to get overlooked. I start college in a few weeks so i got a ton of time on my hands, and all i think about it is how i can secure this job. Is there anything i can do to better my chances?

You might go to the store and ask to speak with the manager of the department, to introduce yourself, note that you've applied, and express how eager you are to work for them. You don't want to take long -- managers are usually busy and won't appreciate someone taking time away from potential buyers -- but it can help you stand out, both by a bit more name familiarity, and by showing you can sell yourself. After all, sales is sales, whether selling the manager on your worth to the store, or selling their customer a game (and accessory, and warranty, and...)

Knowledge is a two-edged sword in sales. It's generally a good thing, but can also be a distraction, especially with things that can inspire near obsession, like games -- if you're discussing how to defeat the Monstrous Gibblefrax on level 28 of the latest dungeon game with someone who just came in for a cable, you might miss a sale to the lady looking to buy her granddaughter a Nintendo DS and handful of Barbie and High School Musical games. If managers get this impression of you, they might not consider you as favorably (possibly why you've been overlooked before).
Yes, you can attempt to call the hiring agent and talk with them about your resume and what would make it more attractive to an employeer. You might want to just tell them you are doing this as part of a college assignment to insure you get a candid discussion.

It might be possible that you are concentrating on the wrong areas. Knowing a lot about games might indicate that you spend to much time playing them and will not be a good worker. You have to look at the job from the employers perspective and try to understand what they would be looking for in that particular area. Also, being to self assured "damn near flawless" types might indicate that will be a difficult employee that always feels they are right.
Lastly, on line applications are searched by computers and not by people. so you have to identify the buzz words they might be looking for. I have found that if you repeat many of the words in the Job listing it increases the chances it will get picked up and reviewed by a person.
