Cisco certifictions?

I live in Dallas texas and work in telecommunications in sales support. I want to persue a career in networking and I feel that Cisco certifications can help me to learn about this field and enter the networking environment.
Is a career path following the cisco career track worth all of the time, money and efforts or is this a career and skill that will pass like novell or other languages.
Is this a lucrative and worthwhile skill to learn today and in the future that is in demand.
Your opinion would be valued.

If you have the dedication, definitely do it.
Read up on Cisco's website about certifications.
I was able to take a networking class in high school and at the end we took the CCNA test for free. Unfortunately I didn't apply myself enough and failed it, but If I had I probably wouldn't have had to take out loans for college.

You'll definitely always be in demand as networking skills will always be needed. Check out their website and see which certifications fit your needs/path.
