Do you think infomercial are effective or is it just crap advertising? |
Do you think infomercial are effective or is it just crap advertising? I think if you're flipping through channels or an infomercial comes on after a program you are watching before you can change the channel they have a few seconds to grab your attention. Then, the infomercial needs to cater to a specific interest of yours or someone close to you to hold your interest beyond a few seconds. To get someone to buy is beyond me as I've never bought anything off an infomercial. I think the biggest and most annoying problem is bad actors and actresses. I mostly hate the weight loss IM's as they prey upon the frail ego of overweight people. Most people who who have failed in dieting have tried many "amazing" weight loss scams and have been disappointed too many times but are still susceptible to trying new scams. It's a shame really... Simple answer YES. If they were not effective they would not exist by the gazillions. The target group are those who can not get out of the house, those who do not research the touted aspects of the product and those who have a charge card burning a hole in their pocket. They are brilliant advertising! If I actually do watch one (eg if I can't find the remote or my cable gets stuck on the infomercial channel) then I ALWAYS want to buy the product even though i know it will either be nothing like it was on tv, or it will last about a week before I get bored of it. Just ask Ron P. and set it and forget it! Millions on this one infomercial. He had the real thing, the rest be care full! If its too good to be true it's not true Infomercials tend to be inexpensive to produce and tend to run on inexpensive media (late night TV, etc.) And, Ron P and others have made billions, so it's definitely effective if the product is something people can imagine they need or want. |
