Where would I get "DM/advertising" experience?

I was looking at a job that sounded really interesting (Copywriter) and they stated "Ideally you will have a DM/advertising background."

What courses or jobs would I need to take to get a DM/advertising background (also, not quite sure what this is)? Also what qualifications would I need to become a copywriter (would I have to go to uni or would a degree from a correspondence college suffice)?

Thanks :)

DM stands for direct marketing, generally writing letters and things. You don't have to go to uni to do it. You could find a place that might let you do an internship or get a job in a copywriting firm as an account representative, which means you talk to clients and make sure their jobs get done right and on time. You can also read a lot about how to write online, and there are books you can read, too.
