I want to get into marketing and advertising? |
in your opinion what are some good books to read up on about marketing and advertising. Marketing and advertising, there is really no particular book or books, because they basically teach the same thing, you have to be thorough in you quest for marketing and advertising.... "Master the Art of Selling" by Tom Hopkins. Also, "Guerilla Marketing" by Jay Conrad Levinson. MBA Hi, if you are in the Philippines I can give you more specific advice. But generally, if you need to start from scratch on the subject "Principles of Marketing" by Philip Kotler will always be a good book to build your foundation with. Once you're done with it, you may want to venture into books by Jack Trout and Al Ries (Positioning / 22 Immutable laws...Marketing Warfare etc.) And then you could probably move on to read some stuff on the strategy gurus and try to relate everything to marketing strategy and marketing planning (ansoff, porter, hamel and prahalad even kaplan and norton) If the things above are too tough I would suggest looking for a local author. Usually, there are marketing books where all the ideas of all the other authors are already put together so you get a compressed yet comprehensive book of marketing principles, strategies and ideas. In any case I am teaching and practicing this stuff so just in case you need clarification on something just write me an email. Macy's, Gimble's and Me ... by Bernice Fitz-Gibbon. Best book in advertising I have ever read. I have read dozens. Next best book: 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing. By Al Ries and Jack Trout. Bernice was a female copywriter who made more money, in the 1940s when women were expected to remain at home and be mothers and housewives, than Franklin Roosevelt, the president of the United States. She made more money than Roosevelt because she was tremendously effective in writing ad copy that sold merchandise. I have read her book numerous times. Each time, it has made me a better advertiser/marketer. Ries and Trout are my marketing heroes. They have written many books. I have read them all. I recommend them all. But "22 Laws" is the best. Good question. Good luck! 32 years in advertising |
