I saw a part-time business ad on TV, is it a scam?

It was 3 A.M, and I couldn't sleep. I turned on the TV for some light and a Paid Program was playing. It was very vague, but said I could make money advertising for a company. The program was "free" and to get paid I had to make sales or get others to join. It mademe curious, so I got on-line and tried to find more information, but I had terrible luck. Then I got on IP Relay and had the operator dial the number on TV: 1-800-309-2403. A long automated message explains the program, promises money, and paid vacations for the one-time fee of $35. If I did not want to pay $35 I had to press 1 to talk to an operator and get a different number, but if I had the money, I could press the same number, to speak with an operator, and get started. Well, that was all the information I could get, because I couldn't get a hold of an operator. So can you guys help me find out more about this? What's the company's name, is it a scam? Can I really make 1,000s? I've never tried anything like this.
Thanks

99% of people who have tried 'invest a little and get rich' end up dissapointed. The one percent actually did the math for themselves and found a way how this could make them personally rich. Making money from programs that spend all their presentation time for outlining the benefits for you rather than explaining what you have to do in order to get paid are very very very unlikely to be fair.
If a company requires initial payment from you in order to work for them, they are not legitimate.

DO NOT take any offers or click any links from people that post on yahoo! answers... Most of them are SCAMS.

98% of work from home jobs are scams!!!

Work-at-Home ads/surveys/stuffing envelopes/data entry/typing/get paid to read emails/view ads/assembling stuff usually don't pay off. Be especially wary of ads that promise huge annual salaries; they often require expensive upfront fees with no guarantee. You risk losing your money and wasting a lot of time and energy.
Most all are scam and you do not make money just pay out.
FORGET it, this is just a variation of the old Pyramid schemes, it is going to cost you to "get in" and you have to generate lots of sales and recruit others (now called multi level marketing) in order to progress. ANY offer that sounds too good to be true USUALLY is. If any of these so called offers were truly genuine the country would be over run with millionaires who only work 10 hours a week. Read the fine print and you will usually see a Disclaimer stating that the people portrayed are being paid to make statements, or that they reflect the top 3% and their results are NOT typical. The only thing you will succeed in doing is wasting your money.
Sounds like one of those pyramid schemes. Anything that requires you to pay up front to make money- should be carefully considered.
Now, think about this first. By reading your question, I can see that you found yourself in a very frustating situation. Would you deal wih any company that gave you the telephone run around? I wouldn't. This company is a scam. The company is making the money by receiving $35. This same company gave you vague or little information didn't they? Legit companies do not do this.
I would be a little leary if I got the run around on the phone too. However $35 to start a business is a pretty good deal. I know that people say you should not have to pay to get started..well in some situations that may be true. Before I would send any money to any company --I would check them out at the BBB...and maybe some other places. The company I work for from home you have a "membership fee".
It is not a get rich quick scheme and it is not a MLM (multi level marketing)-- I have been through 2-3 home based business's until I found this one-- NO selling, No stocking, No Inventory-- Seriously work around your schedule. So I have been there and done that. THERE are scams out there-- there are people that will tell you anything you want to hear. But there are also legit and real companies that do want to help you succeed! Good Luck. mdkmom@sentco.net
