this mortgage dude called my house asking for my dad, but i said he wasnt home and he gave me the number and all that, but then he asked for my name. Do I have to give it to him? can i just make one up?
You don't have to give anyone information over the phone. Heck, you don't even want a mortgage from him. Tell him to shove off.

You are not required to give them your name. It's none of their business whether you are their son or the pool boy who broke into the house to go to the bathroom and raid the refridgerator.
