Distribution Companies? |
I am a manufacturer of a health product. I would like a big distribution company to distribute my product in health stores and pharmacies nationwide. If you have any ideas how I can get in contact with such a company, please let me know. Or if you know the correct terminology for such a company? Thanks! You really need to create some hype about the product first. Some distribution companies may carry a product in their catalog, but if you want to get sales, you need to create awareness of it first. If you've created that awareness then you can find bigger and better distribution/wholesalers for your product. Maybe get everything tested, then hit up some smaller company's/stores who will: a. let you rent self space. You stock the self, keep up inventory and pay them some fee. It may mean a price per month, plus additional charge to the customer when they pay for it. b. buy a small quantity from you. Works best if you work out an agreement where if it doesn't sell after "x" time, you buy it back. c. let you come in and set up a booth for a day to sell the product. If you can sell it pretty good, then they may want to carry it. As you get more hype about the product, more stores will want to carry it, and more wholesalers will want to help you sell it to more buyers. They are called distributors or wholesalers. Try to get in touch with McKesson (San Francisco) for drug and grocery distribution and Tree of Life (St Augustine Florida) for health food store distribution. But I can promise they will not even give you an appointment to show them your product unless you have a very substantial advertising program in place and have already sold to a few major accounts, like Walgreen's rite aid wal-mart. once you've done all the hard work and spent all the money to get distribution, they will be glad to step in and take some of your profits away. |
