How to get paid for ads on your webpage?

how would i get advertisements on my webpage to make money?

There are four potential ways to generate revenue from your website.

1) Join an affiliate network
An affiliate network is a way of having the advertising and finance side of your site handled by a third party such as Commission Junction (Global), or Trade Doubler(UK).
When you sign up to an affiliate network you have the option to join specific advertiser programmes. If the merchant accepts your request to join the programme you will be provided with html tags which you insert into your webpage. Banner advertising is then automatically fed into your site from the specific merchant. If a browser then clicks on the link on your site and then purchases from the merchants site you will receive commission for the sale - normally in the region on 4-10% of the sale value. This is a very easy way to make money as long as your site generates reasonable traffic and has content specific to which ever merchant you sign up with.

2) Join the Google Adsense Network
Again very similar but all run through Google. Instead this time you do not get paid on commission of a sale, but on a Pay Per Click model. Also you do not get to choose which banner or text advertising appears on your site - it's all operated by Google but very easy to setup.

3) Work direct with merchants/advertising agencies
Advertisers will buy banner impressions (single views of a banner ad) on a cost per thousand (CPM) basis. Rates can vary from 拢0.50 to 拢50 depending on the content and quality of the site. This is time intensive and requires good industry relationships.

4) Join a sales house
Sales houses conglomerate medium to large sites and again sell on a CPM basis. They also operate on a network level allowing advertisers to buy a specific type or 'verticle' of site, such a finance, travel, entertainment etc. Obviously the sales house takes a cut on this so not necessarily the best option if your site is still getting on its feet.

Recommendations
I'd go with option 1 if your site is still small and establishing its audience.

What kind of website do you have? The ads should be targeted to the type of audience that visits your site.

You can try Google Adsense, Kontera, Adbrite. These are a few to get you started.

Also if you want local ads, you would need to show stats of your traffic numbers, etc and see if the locals would like to place an ad on your site for payment.

This should get you started!

Try Website Master forums as well. :-)
