Do you think cold calling is outdated,if so what's the most effective selling methods nowadays?

In my experience - cold calling can work - if you have practiced and do not read from a script. Making the call as natural as possible and ensuring that you are just making information availabile that they might not have heard of works too. You'd be surprised that with the write approach- it works!

Cold callers are a pain in the ***
I don't know about being outdated, but cold calling is very annoying and anyone calling my number gets a very COLD response. As far as I am concerned, it doesn't matter which method you use... if I don't want it, I won't try it. But then I'm pretty unusual in that respect.

Giving freebies will often encourage people to part with their money. For example, we tried a sample of a delicious soya icecream for free in a local supermarket and immediately went and bought a tub. But then, we like soya products rather than dairy.
Cold calling is not outdated but is certainly more difficult than it ever used to be. As the young lady above states, if it is done it a natural 'chatty' way rather than a robot read script it can still be effective.

More likely these days is 'warm' calling where you have already expressed an interest in a similar subject and have voluntarily given your phone number - like entering in a competition to win a new kitchen, you will possibly get a call from the sponsoring company offering to sell you one.

Telephone sales take proper training which quite often the reps don't get hence the poor reutation of tele-sales.
cold calling is tough to cut thro all the others doing it, and some industries/organisations just will not take cold calls anymore. Best is same as always, face-face. Of course you need a way of getting there, but thats another ?
