What is the relationship between number of pageviews and ability to monetize through advertising? |
e.g. a site with 1 million pageviews per month should be able to receive $x in advertising dollars per month. Does anyone have any rules of thumb like that? There's no set rule. The price of advertising is not set by mere pageviews alone -- though it helps. Aside from pageviews, a website can set the price of their ad rates based on these factors: - Types of visitor the site attracts: a site that attracts CEOs can command significantly higher rates than a site that attracts young kids looking for free downloads -- even though the second site may attract more pageviews than the first site - Brand name: a site that has developed a strong brand and frequently seen and mentioned by both online and offline media such as TV, magazines, newspapers and radio can command higher price than a site that attracts 10x more traffic but little known |
