Differentiate between solicited and un-solicited letters. Whatguidelines should be observedfor writting these? A letter is only solicited if the person receiving the letter has either asked for it, for example written or phoned you for further information, or who has explicitly stated that they are happy to receive information from you, by checking a box on a form. Anything the sender is not expecting is unsolicited, and most likely will go in the bin! It can seriously damage your company reputation sending out things unsolicited. People moan a lot more than people praise, so many more people will complain to each other about unsolicited letters, than people who say your service is great and they recommend you. Mailing campaigns are usually a waste of money, especially nowadays when people get so much junk throught the post, though email, and unsolicited phone calls. It just tends to annoy people. You need to offer people a bonus if they receive your letter, it needs to be something people want, and something people will tell each other about. Solicited = the addressee is expecting it un-solicited = addressee NOT expecting it. Like the endless leaflets I get from pizza shops, a waste of paper since they go straight in the miscellaneous file (the bin!) |
