Advertising -- billboards? |
Why do people not like them?? And especially the digital ones. What do people have against them? Have you ever been to Hawaii? Billboards are illegal. You cannot have a sign bigger than a certain dimension and absolutely NO billboards anywhere. One company got fined for hanging a big banner on a wall in front of their business on the corner of the street. Without all that extra clutter and metal and visual distractions, you're really able to see so much more of the natural beauty of the land and sky and things around you. I never really noticed it, and billboards never really bothered me. They weren't that distracting, and I enjoyed looking at them at times. I grew up, born and raised in Southern California and spent a lot of time driving along the 405 freeway, which is LITTERED with hundreds of hundreds of billboards. I didn't notice their ugliness until I moved to Hawaii and saw what a difference it makes. If I might play devil's advocate here for a bit, this isn't necessarily my opinion, but just one possible side to this discussion: They can be very distracting for some people. How am I supposed to drive safely and focus on the road while looking at pictures and reading text and comprehending images on digital screens, three dimensional figures, and moving parts? It's simply a matter of safety. For me, it's that and visual beauty and clarity. in general I think they are nothing but eyesores to the community I don't mind them unless they're for something stupid. |
