I was asked to apply for my newly redefined job description? |
yesterday i was called into my bosses office and was told my job was being redefined. i was told instead of being a director of public relations, which includes planning a marketing campaign, designing ads, scheduling special events, etc. the company i work for wants a person to a be an external community relations/marketing director who attends meetings, is a member of various service clubs and who promotes the image of the organization at all public events. In addition, this new position would basically listen for complaints in the public and bring them back to the company to be reported, so they could be corrected. i was offered the chance to apply for this new position but if i didn't get it, i would be out of a job? the company indicated that the work i have previously done, marketing design, ad creation, web development, etc. would be jobbed out. any thoughts, ideas, plans, inspiration or wisdom. i'm 38 and a bit scared. help. Get your resume ready. Your job is being abolished and the "new" position you are applying for doesn't seem to have much to do with the skills you outline that worked for you in the previous position. I would go to one of those organinizations to get info on what to do. There might be laws on what your company can and can't do in situations like that. Be informed before being pushed around. But if they were to let you go because of jobs shifts or down sizing, than you probably would qualify for unemployement. Check into it. If you like the organization, apply for the position. However I would make sure I have my resume polished. I would also start talking to head hunters to test the market. Sounds like they are trying to get you out though, otherwise you would have just been offered the position. I know this question will not sound very good, but I guess it needs to be asked. How attractive are you? Most of the folks in an external position I have seen in this role are one of the beautiful people. Best of luck.
