Marketing and advertising?

do you really make good money at it.. and what type of degree do you need to suceed at it..i see ads on monster .com and other sites that say no expirence no education.. but it seems to me in order to make top dollar you would need to go to school for it

There's not much into Advertising as much as Marketing. However, education is imporant to succeed. But people say that experience is important. To be frank, both is important. Experience is necessary and education builds our intellectual. You can get a BS in Business Admin with concerntration on Marketing or BS in Marketing/or BS in journalism/advertising. I would recommend getting Masters too. Marketing ranks 4rd in business field after accounting, financing, real estate.

The median salary for marketing manager is $188K and for Advertising and promotions managers, $64K. There is a huge difference money wise and job wise. It is easier to get a job in marketing field than advertising.

About 2/3's of the people work irregular and long hours. Working in the weekend is also common. But Marketing jobs pay you higher.

A wide range of educational backgrounds is suitable for entry into advertising and marketing field. Many employers prefer those with experience in related occupations plus a broad liberal arts background. A bachelor鈥檚 degree in sociology, psychology, literature, journalism, or philosophy, among other subjects, is acceptable. However, requirements vary, depending upon the particular job.

For marketing, sales, and promotions management positions, some employers prefer a bachelor鈥檚 or master鈥檚 degree in business administration with an emphasis on marketing. Courses in business law, economics, accounting, finance, mathematics, and statistics are advantageous. In highly technical industries, such as computer and electronics manufacturing, a bachelor鈥檚 degree in engineering or science, combined with a master鈥檚 degree in business administration, is preferred.

For advertising management positions, some employers prefer a bachelor鈥檚 degree in advertising or journalism. A course of study should include marketing, consumer behavior, market research, sales, communication methods and technology, and visual arts鈥攆or example, art history and photography.

For all these specialties, courses in management and the completion of an internship while the candidate is in school are highly recommended. Familiarity with word-processing and database applications also is important for many positions. Computer skills are vital because marketing, product promotion, and advertising on the Internet are increasingly common. Also, the ability to communicate in a foreign language may open up employment opportunities in many rapidly growing areas around the country, especially cities with large Spanish-speaking populations.

Having proper education helps a lot in anything you do. But it's not mandatory. If you are talented enough u can do it.

For these kind of jobs, u should have extraordinary skills in creativity, artistic abilities & you should see things in a different way to make it appear different or attractive.
A good solid education is vitally important in the advertising industry. The course depends on what area of the trade you would like to get into. A liberal arts commerce would be a good start. Education is never ending in this industry.

If it is marketing I suggest a bachelors degree in business with a major in marketing.
