(UK) I've got a great idea for an invention, it would be an electrical gadget, where do I start?? |
It's all very well me 'thinking' of an invention, but how would I go about getting a prototype made, promoting it, marketing it and increasing production etc etc etc?!?!?! Thanks Make sure you don;t tell anyone else about it!! This site may help you. Good luck http://www.mattyubas.com/invention-artic... All I can say from what little I know - KEEP IT A SECRET!! Tell ONE person who you don't know who they REALLY are, and you could lose out - BIG TIME. Be careful; but still, good luck!! Before spending your money, make sure it's really unique and isn't already patented. Does your device satisfy an real problem? If you have something cool, but no one needs it, then you'll need to spend time educating people about their problem and your solution. Do you have a day job? To start any new business, you'll need a reliable source of funds. Prototypes are expensive. Marketing & Advertising costs. Can you make a non-functional mock-up (i.e., made of cardboard or foam board)? Can you convince people that this box is cool? Ideas are easy. The hard part is actually implementing them. Don't worry about protecting the idea just yet. Sure, a non-disclosure agreement (for the US, don't know UK legal details) is good sense. However, let's say you show it to someone, and they rip off your idea, and build it. Now what? Do you have the funds to sue them? Once you have an idea and prototype, you'll need to test it. That can be an abstract thing, like a focus group, or a real-world thing, like actually selling your "alpha" version to get feedback for your "beta". The real world would fund your invention. Once you have sales, then you can decide how (or IF) to ramp-up production or if you should license it to someone else. |
