Do you subscribe to magazines? Have you ever received a bill from United Subscriber Billing? |
I just received a "bill" for $75.00 for a magazine to which I have never subscribed - shoot, I've never even HEARD of this magazine. The bill comes from UNITED SUBSCRIBER BILLING, LLC, Dallas TX and it looks very official. I've sent them a scathing letter telling them that I know what they're doing and that I find it despicable. How many people must get these "bills" and they just send a check. At $75.00 per person, if they can get 1000 people to pay a bill, they've pulled in a nice profit. The expense of the magazine is negligible in comparison, I'm sure. What's happened is obvious: They purchased a mailing list that included my name, and they've sent me a "bill" in the hopes that I'll just pay it. This is a deceptive practice but probably not illegal as the customary approach is to "let the buyer beware". So in addition to warning others, now I wonder: have you ever received a bill like this? Have you ever been a victim of a similar scam? What did you do? I just got a bill from these thieves today for a subscription to Movieline....wth is that? Never heard of that magazine but it sure does look like an official invoice . Their address is : United Subscribers Billing LLC 2633 McKinney Ave Suite 130-506 Dallas Tx 75204 if you would like to know where they are..... :) and email too--- subscriberbillingsvc@yahoo.com I will be turning them into the BBB today too.... UPDATE!!!! Looky here... http://www.dallas.bbb.org/commonreport.h... .. The same thing happened to my mother. She got a bill from Foremost Publications, claiming that she owed for her Readers Digest subscription. (She does subscribe to RD.) The whole thing smelled fishy. She called Foremost Publications and was told that RD fired their whole billing department, an obvious lie. I contacted RD, sent them a copy of the fake bill, and also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. You should think about doing the same. www.bbb.org We received a billing renewal from this co. and one from Readers Digest. United was for 24.96 and the Digest was for 13.98. This is definitely a rip-off if not illegal. I have received numerous billings from this shoddy outfit. I can not see why anyone would pay them, when you can renew your subscriptions with the any magazine for 1/3 the price they quote. It surprises me that they can get the necessary information and then actually get away with this practice. My billings from this group, usually ends up in the wastebasket, or shredder. yes, got one today. Yes, I did get one of those "billings" for a magazine I already subscribe to, which purposely was made to look as if I had renewed the subscription for 3 MORE years (did not). I agree . to me it looks like a scam , assuming people will just throw it in with their other bills to pay and actually pay it. But they have protected themselves in the small print...."offer is not a bill" and "you are under no obligation to either buy or renew" so I plan to do nothing and certainly not pay anything. (and I would never do any business with these folks) |
