Hi I am 14 years old and I have done some recerch on static electricity and I was wondering if I make something that can capture static electricty and feed it back in to the grid that I can get a patent on it... my dad dose not want to help me so I am looking for a cheep way to get a patent... The cheapest way and definitely the easiest, is to do what is called a "sell patent". Take all the documentations of your research. Place it in an self address stamped envelope and mail it to yourself. But do not open the letter. Why? because you now have a sealed document with a federal postmark on it showing the date of origination. Keep this in a safe place and never open it. (Just in case you may have to used in a legal dispute) You may want to mail yourself more than one copy for safe keeping's. Be very careful how you talk about your invention, you may have told too much already..... There is a firm called "Invent-tech" That will do the whole nine yards as far as getting a federal patent and submitting it to companies to make some big bucks. Keep in mind that it may cost you about $800-$900 to get a patent. Do the self patent first. If you decide to deal with them or any other firm, make sure that they give you all documentation concerning you idea/ invention, now a days big business are not as trustworthy as they used to be...... i think they administer a spelling test prior to obtaining a patent. Soooo....you lose..
