So really, is it really that hard to find a first job? |
I'm graduating in May and I'm hoping (needing) to score a job right out of the bat. I'm looking into getting into an advertising firm. I just finished up an internship with a magazine which I will "embellish" on my resume for experience. I also intend to get an internship with a real advertising agency this coming January. They may offer me a job afterwards, but assuming they don't how hard do you think it will be for me to find a job? Are there any other steps I should take to better myself off? NETWORK!!! You're on the right track by doing the internships. A degree is good, experience is better, but nothing beats knowing the right people. Don't be ashamed to ask people for references or to put in a good word for you at the company they work at. Other than that, try to be as creative as possible with your resume and cover letter. HR people and hiring managers are swimming in a sea of standard, white, boring resumes that all look the same. make yours stand out. not really if u dont mind working at mickey d's. ask your parents if they know someone in your field, or in a field where an advertising job would be needed. See if they can get you an interview scheduled with the boss. Network...best advice I can give. Your experience and resume is useless unless it gets into the right hands...that's where networking comes in. Also, you need to be persistent and dedicated to finding a job. Don't give up. You may get a lot of rejection, just keep at it. I tried to get a job for 3 months straight after college. Everyday I set goals for myself. Apply to 5 online jobs/day, send 5 resumes through snail mail, attend one networking event/week, etc etc. Hi There, What will you be graduating in and what kind of jobs are you looking for in the as agencies? If you are looking to work on the creative side then it would a good time to show some samples of your work. You can obtain some samples by doing some freelance work for other clients. Perhaps for a non-profit organisation. Networking for the sake of networking is bettter then not networking at all but if you have something to offer with proof it is so much more effective. Good luck mate. For freelance jobs .. use guru.com its free and loads of jobs to bid on. hi check this link its useful http://workathomedataentrysites.blogspot... . |
