How to attract attendees & sponsors to a charity event? |
My teammates and I have tried many things to promote two parties benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We've got a web page - http://www.thepartywithapurpose.com... - we've posted to NY/Westchester/Rockland newspaper community calendars, sent a press release, e-mailed all of our friends and family, announced on local meetup groups and craigslist, posted flyers and may have an ad displayed on public access cable guide. I've also contacted many local businesses asking for sponsorship, ready with a formal letter. So far response has been very little and we need to raise thousands of dollars! What other free things can we do to get people to attend? How do I attract sponsors? Help! Your website is colorful, but has very little information on it. Could you make it more detailed and hands on? Could you find a local spokes person who has been effected by Luekemia in some way? Have you tried to talk to local companies about maybe having a raffle of some sort that they could donate prizes to? How about local media such as radio? Would they advertise your parties on their websites? I have plenty more ideas, let me know if you are interested in hearing them. Source(s): I have worked with non profits and also done donation drives independantly. Find connectors, people that know lots of other people that will attend just because they are there. You can find one individual that can have hundreds of people there just because he is. Mayors, CEO's, church reverends, rotary leaders etc etc. Then ask them how many people THEY can get. Consider enlisting the help of a celebrity: local or international. Go on-line and see who might be interested in supporting your cause and attempt to attract them to your event. It's definitely for a great cause and this would give your fund-raiser/function just the boost it needs to approach your goals. The thing about charities and advertisements-you have to give a little in order to gain a lot. Nothing is free. If I told you that you need to come and pay $500 to dine at a benefit; then when you ask me what's on the menu and the itinerary/agenda for that evening, and my response is: " Oh, nothing; you're just going to receive water and listen to us tell you just how sincerely we appreciate you all coming out and supporting our mission, yada-yada-yada." would you still feel motivated enough to set aside your hectic schedule and grace me with your presence? All I'm suggesting is that you give them a reason; other than the fact that it's for a great cause, to get interested in your event. Make it worth their while. Ask businesses if they can donate pizzas, ice, sodas, etc.,. And have some type of raffle or drawing. One of you lucky ticket holders could win this laptop; widescreen tv; playstation 3, dvd player/burner; ipod; etc.,. A lot of businesses would donate these items as well. So, good luck. Hope to have been of some assistance to you? Peace. |
