How would I go about getting my website in the search engines? The simple answer is to get links to your website! You no longer have to submit to the search engines, they spider so much of the net that as soon as someone links to you, you get picked up automatically. You can speed things up by creating a google sitemap and submitting it to google. This is a list of all the pages on your site, and their are free tools to create this automatically. I`ve added a link to the best one below. You just tell it the main address of your website and it will automatically create a sitemap. Upload this to the root of your website, and then tell google where it is using google webmaster tools, also linked to below. With Yahoo you would scroll down to the bottom of the home page and click "how to suggest a site" you will be taken to a new page click on "submit your site for free" similar with other search engines. good luck. The main search engines have robots that go out and scan all of the websites there are and rank them putting them into their search engines. So if your website is new, it take up to 90 days before they will find it. You can go to Google or one of the others and put in your URL and see if it turns up. If so, then it's there in the search engine. Blog scripts are free and easily installed, the benefit is that blog posts can get picked up very quickly by the major search engines, often within 24 hours. Use social bookmarking and tagging to create external links to your website. Create a short video related to your website, submit it to your YouTube.com and link back to your website. Join Myspace and other social networks and link back to your website from your profile page. Create a viral ebook that you can giveaway, it should include a link back to your website. I know you may not be able to do it all yourself but it shows there are many ways to speed up the process without spending much money in the process. |
