Free Giveaways, is it legal? |
On my site: http://www.trueoutdoorsmanonline.com... I am giving away free outdoors stuff to members. All they have to do is become a member which is free, and have a post count, and then they are randomly selected. Is is legal to giveaway stuff? If the word "Free" in the ad and the program that delivers the "free" product or service complies with the Federal Trade Commission's definition of "Free," then it is legal. However, in almost all cases, the "free" product will only be delivered if the buyer signs up to receive goods and services for which s/he will be billed. Strictly speaking, that isn't legal because the inducement to purchase was false and misleading. It is legal if it is your property or has a disclaimer saying you can give it away for free, often under the understanding that you make no changes to the items. If you do not know why are you already doing this? Or are you asking so we will go to your site? It is somewhat just like the "FreeCycle" system, or so it seems. It is absolutely legal as long as you are not asking for anything to trade or in return for giving away the "free stuff". |
