I am a Marketing Major...and im interested in a position working with tv. ads and slogans, etc? |
I plan to minor in Speech Comm and Psychology, would a minor in a audio visual or film compliment well since I want to work with ads although, i dont want anything to do with the filming or directing... Is the marketing field overly populated with graduates??? It sounds like you are talking about advertising, not marketing. Yes the advertising field is overpopulated with people. Mainly because they don't limit themselves to marketing graduates. Often the best advertisement professionals are graphic artists, writers, or journalists. Marketing is not about advertisement, its about selling. And if you don't know the difference you aren't far enough into your marketing career. Selling is definitely where it is at. It allows you to use your creative side, and people skills to make money. And believe me there is a LOT more money in sales than in advertising. A good salesman will often make just as much if not more than they CEO of a company. I graduated with a Bachelors in Mktg and Mgmt with high hopes of working at an ad agency................good luck. You either have to know someone at the agency or intern while in school. Very few fellow mktg grads that I know are actually doing marketing. Go to an advertising agency. Tell them you want to join there company. Tell them what you want to do and that you will take any job to get a chance to show how great thou art. Follow up by saying, "I have my education, I do not use drugs, I have no criminal record, I am ready to conquer the world. If they do not hire you on the spot go to the next one. Ad agencies never get too much talent. That is the key word "talent". |
