It's All In The Name? |
My wife was a music teacher for 10 years. She has been staying home raising our daughter for the last 4 years. Now, that she is ready to start school, my wife is thinking about working again. However, this time she would like to work for herself. She is going to start by offering vocal lessons at our local High School, but she wants to someday own a vocal studio with like a music store/coffee shop in it. A place where kids can hang out on Friday night and maybe just get noticed for their talent. My question is...What should we call it! After all, its all in the name! If it will help: My wife's name is Trisha and she simply goes by Trish. We live in OH; matter a fact in the Football Hall of Fame Capital of the world. Our counties name is Stark. They say a surroundings name is good - it makes you a local business. She thinks something with an Italian name like "Voci" but that is already taken here. You guys are the best!!! Can't wait to see what you come up with! Ciao!!! I'd try this different approach. Invite over about ten of your best friends for a wine tasting party at your house early in the evening and make sure you have a designated driver or two. After everyone has had a glass or two, and start to loosen up tell them you are looking for a name for your wife's new vocal studio. You'd be surprised at how creative they become. The more they get loose the more chance there is of something very good coming out of it. Get several names you like because the challenge will be to find a name that is also available as a web site name. The moment you settle on something, do a search at http://www.godaddy.com to see if the name is available. If you are very lucky and it is, available, buy it immediately. The price is usually less than $10 and you鈥檒l own it for at least a year. Hope this helps to have successful advertising for anything.. name it something that people will understand and remember.. it is more than what is a name.. it is what the name explains so that those who hear it will know exactly what it means and does.. Voci does not do either of those.. whats wrong with a really good english name? something like hang and sing.. Everybody has seemed to have forgotten them. The search for names is a difficult task but there are generally two apposing rules, either can work: 1- Use a compound word or two, with each word focusing on a specific component of the business. 2- Find a word that means nothing but that sings, no punt intended. As a general rule, avoid names and foreign languages, especially to a local US market. Having a local reference is double edged as it can be comforting in a sense but generally will portray a low quality image. Jeff's diner, Rick Club, etc --- Avoid. The compound route is certainly a good one, in it though, avoid the likes of "and", "&", "Me", "You" The key components are Song, Sing, Vocal, Voice, etc Place type - Studio, Theatre, Class, etc Addtional value - cafe Compound versions: VoiceStudio Cafe, StudioVoice Cafe, Cafe Song, Cafe Song Studio, etc Remember that the concept of a local business is conveyed more where and how you market rather than the name.
