Around how much do advertisers pay a website for advertising in a month and what more or less are the terms?

how do they sign contracts when the advertiser is overseas and the website operator is in another country? thanks

It depends on a lot of factors. Some sites charge advertisers as low as $5 per month, while the top guns can charge $75 per cost per impression (or even more) which means that for every 1,000 people who viewed the ad the advertiser pays $75

Some of the factors include:

- Type of advertising: a CPM campaign will have different terms compared to a CPC (cost per click) campaign or a sponsored link advertising. Newsletter advertising is also different from the others

- Rate depends on the above factors. Sites will have different rates for each type of campaign -- e.g. $5 per CPM for cost per impression banner ads and maybe a fixed $100 per month for text sponsored links

- Ad formats being purchased - rates for leaderboard will be more expensive than a banner; and a run-of-the-site campaign where all adverts on a page are bought by an advertiser will be different as well

Contracts are easy with emails. Some simply fill in the order form or use Paypal and pay for the advert -- without requiring a contract. They just purchase the ad like they are purchasing a product.

However, if the advertiser has an agency that acts as the middleman and manages the advertising campaign, expect to have contracts signed, even auditing of the page impressions the campaign generated before they pay you. Some stipulates that payment will be made only after an audit is made within 30 days after end of the campaign

It really depends on how you want to deal with advertisers in your site. You can get advertisers without being so formal about it by using a contract (just make sure you clarify the terms of advertising -- e.g. that you don't accept refunds, etc), or you can opt for a more formal approach where contracts are signed.
